European Elephant Keeper and Manager Association (EEKMA)
The European Elephant Keeper and Manager Association (EEKMA) was established in 1997 to create a platform for elephant keepers and to represent their interests, to develop Europe-specific elephant management concepts, to improve reproductive efforts, to support training programs and continued education for elephant keepers, to promote the need for species preservation through research and to be active in the field of public education.
EEKMA
publishes a quarterly newsletter: ELEPHANT JOURNAL that appears in both German
and English language versions, and brings members elephant articles and photos
from around Europe. First-hand accounts of ongoing studies, notices of meetings
and workshops, and news from various elephant facilities are all regular
features.

EEKMA is primarily the forum for elephant keepers, but
other persons such as curators or other interested persons should be
permitted to join. Essential is the task to improve the communication
between keeper and curator.The legal status of this forum is set up for an association, whose objectives and organisation are contained in the statutes.
The aim of the association a) Creating a platform for elephant keepers and represent their interests. EEKMA has more than 130 members (keeper, curators,
veterinarians, interested persons) from Zoos in : Aalborg, Amersfoort, Augsburg,
Basel, Berlin, Bojnice, Boras, Chester, Colchester, Copenhagen, Cottbus,
Dresden, Dudley, Duisburg, Greenbrier, Halle, Hamburg, Hanover, Indianapolis,
Karlsruhe, Kharkov, Kolmarden, Colonna, Krefeld, Leipzig, Magdeburg, Matabo,
Moskow, Munich, Münster, Napa, Osnabrück, Perth, Portland, Prague, Rostock,
Rotterdam, Stuttgart, Toronto, Usti nad Labem, Vallejo, Valley, Victoria Falls,
Vienna, Woburn, Zürich.
is to promote the following objectives, i. e. to
support them and to be active in the field of education:
b) Improvement of the keeping, for caring and breeding of elephants.
c) Training and continued education of elephant keepers.
d) Science and research.
